ANNOUNCED: BLUETOOTH 5.0 (FASTER THAN EVER)
With research and development of IoT going at a faster pace,
the requirement for a better and more reliable connection technology is the
need. Bluetooth 5.0 announced recently overcomes the
major hurdles of the previous version, still maintaining its best advantage. i.e.(low power requirement). It has 4x range, 2x speed and 8x broadcasting message
capacity than the previous generation.
Many of us would say, why develop Bluetooth, Wi-Fi is better
right?
Yes, In terms of transfer rate, Wi-Fi is miles ahead, but it
consumes a lot more power than Bluetooth.
Iot applications are required to consume less power, also a
higher bandwidth requirement is not needed. Also the manufacturing of Bluetooth
based ones are cheaper.
Though now the Bluetooth SIG group guarantees the 4x range,
2x speed and 8x broadcasting message capacity, it cannot achieve all of its
features at the same time, the developers can compromise between range and
bandwidth. E.g. In case of door locks, a limited bandwidth is enough but should
have larger range.
Whereas in case of data transfer between phone and a
smartwatch, the devices are close enough, so here range can be compromised,
while having improved bandwidth.
Devices with Bluetooth 5.0 is expected to launch from the
first quarter of 2017.Samsung Galaxy S8 is rumored to be the first phone to
debut with Bluetooth 5.0
