All village panchayats to be connected through Optical Fibre Cable by end of 2018
The Government of India have said that they are in the process of connecting the gram panchayats to internet via optical cables before the end of 2018.
To fulfill the government's digital India initiative and to have a cash less economy, it is necessary to strengthen the network infrastructure of our country.
By having a wider internet penetration, more people will be able to make use of e-governance services.
One lakh gram panchayats are to be connected by underground Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) by March this year under the first phase of BharatNet project, said Minister P P Chaudhary.
This would be done through a mix of underground fibre cables, fibre over power lines, radio and satellite media.
As on January 29, 2017, Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) has been laid to 76,089 gram panchayats with a total length of 1,72,257 kilometers. As many as 16,355 gram panchayats have been provided with broadband connectivity.
Hope this would also bring down the tariff rates of present Broadband players and the end users will get a quality service.
